First of all, I am happy to report that the MDOP labs were very successful, and were written on the latest version of 4.5 (4.5.1478). If you've been to other conferences lately (Tech Ed, for example) you have seen the labs before, but not in the 4.5.1478 version.
Other cool stuff I got to play with:
TS RemoteApp: Using TS RemoteApp on Windows Server 2008, you can install an application on a server, and package the EXE as an RDP file. When the user launches the RDP file, the application runs on his computer using RDP. It is not quite the same as lanching an RDP session to the server, though. There is no RDP window, just an application.
Why do I like this? We sequence lots of apps that turn out to be just icons to a network app. The icon streams to the client. When they launch the app, it is launching the app on the server. TS RemoteApp is not much different, but you do not need any AppV infrastructure in place.
Citrix XenDesktop: There was a lab that used XenDesktop and Citrix Provisioning which allows the administrator to sort of stream OS's to the desktop, but not really. Basically, in a high level overview, you can have a desktop computer with no hard drive, and still run an OS. I'm telling you, it is cool. PXE boot to the Citrix server, stream an OS, run it as if it were locally installed.
Hyper-V, Hyper-V, and more Hyper-V. The more I see it and use it, the more I like it. In an unrelated note, some of our labs required re-imaging the computers between attendees, and imageX worked very well to accomplish this. And it was very quick. Nice job.
Seando, JF, Kevin: It was a pleasure seeing you and talking with you.
Everyone else: Happy Sequencing!
